Dominik Lang

Dominik Lang (*1980) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Studios of Jindřich Zeithamml, Veronika Bromová and Jiří Příhoda). He also studied at the Studio of Intermedia Art of Jiří David at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He went on several study stays and scholarships, including Cooper Union in New York. In his installations, he redefines modernist tradition and combines it with contemporary presentation. He focuses on institutional frameworks and practical aspects of gallery operation, critically reflecting on them. The key moments of his work include fragmentation, readymades and their contextualization through various forms of exposition and exhibition architecture. Rather than merely exhibiting artworks, he takes their spatial context into consideration and makes the form of the exhibition part of the game. In 2008–2011, he worked as assistant at the Studio of the Visiting Artist at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague; since 2011, he heads the Sculpture Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. In 2006, he worked as assistant at Ai Weiwei’s Beijing Studio. He presented his work in international context at his Expanded Anxiety exhibition at the Wiener Secession and his Sleeping City installation at the 54th Biennale Arte in Venice.
