Pavel Kopřiva (*1968) graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design at the studios of Jiří Harcuba and Adéla Matasová and received a doctoral degree at the Academy in 2004. He went on scholarships at Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, Villa Waldberta in Munich and Ohio Arts Council in the US. Besides installations and multimedia objects, he creates works reflecting on technology and design, shifting these into the category of visual arts. He often works in photography and video art as well. He employs fiction, mystery and irony to criticize social phenomena and events. Often showing perfect aesthetics and design, his works carry a sarcastic undertone and seek to demask the power strategies of the system. Until 2003, Pavel Kopřiva worked as assistant at the Studio of Conceptual and Intermedia Art at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague; since 2007, he heads the Interactive Media Studio at the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. Besides many renowned galleries in the Czech Republic, he exhibited his work at Spaces Gallery in Cleveland among others.
