"Jakub Hošek is a painter whose prolific artwork incessantly keeps changing. There is always a striking graphical, ornamental, even calligraphic angle to his paintings. He often works with text, lately arranging well-thought-out spatial installations of his canvasses.” (Jury Statement

Jakub Hošek (*1979) graduated from the Prague Academy of Fine Arts (Studio of Painting II/ Vladimír Skrepl School). In 2003 he paid study visit to the Middlesex University in London. In his artwork he combines calligraphic techniques with street art chaos and graphic design. The influence of comic strips, music posters or album covers is obvious. He creates his paintings by filling areas with color and overlapping stencils of complicated design, which he often makes into wall objects. The artist is member of the Prague collective A. M. 180, interconnecting the art scene and music. Jakub Hošek is the holder of Vienna CZ Strabag Artaward, he was among the STARTPOINT Award finalists and placed third in the Critics Award for Young Painting. He took part in several residencies, e.g. MMCA in Seoul or the ISCP Institute in New York.
