Text brochure for the exhibition in PDF download here:

The exhibition The Soft After / Křehkost, co přetrvá focuses on well-being and the mental health of so-called Generation Z (born roughly between the mid-1990s and 2010). In their work, young artists address concrete manifestations of traumatic experiences, psychological strain, and toxic situations within families, educational settings, and the broader “illnesses” of contemporary society.

The exhibited works take the form of reflections and commentaries in different registers; in some cases, they also function as records of experience and/or as means of working through difficult personal situations. Without romanticising these conditions, the exhibition offers a generational statement that speaks to the capacity of young people to transform such experiences into new ways of understanding themselves and their relationship to the world around them.

The title evokes the vulnerability with which we enter the world—the fragile balance of a person in formation, whose soft core, initially open to everything that comes, gradually becomes covered by a protective shell, layers that absorb impact. Yet this fragility is also what makes us who we are. It is therefore the responsibility of institutions, authorities, and society as a whole to create safe and supportive environments for all. In this sense, the exhibition embraces the idea that “there is strength in fragility,” and seeks to support the courage and openness of the artists who share it with us.

Accessibility: The main gallery areas and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Exceptions include one room with a steeper floor slope and a transition between two parts of the exhibition, which is separated by two steps.

Sensory stimuli: Most of the artworks do not pose a risk of sensory overload or irritation. An exception is Yaryna Derevianko’s work (No. 5) Fear, which features a pixelated sequence with a disturbing musical underscore.

Trigger warning: Some works deal with themes of traumatic experiences, mental illness, or addiction. This content is highlighted in the accompanying brochure and also by pictograms on the floor directly in the gallery.

Rest zones: For emotional and sensory calming, you may use the Reading Room. The exhibition also features a "hugging object" by Bronislava Orlická and Zuzana Smrkovská, designed for physical and psychological relaxation.

Orientation: The artworks are marked with numbers. Detailed information and curatorial texts can be found in the brochure with a map, which is available at the entrance.

Transport and facilities: Parking is not available on-site. The nearest public transport stop is Nádraží Libeň. There is no café in the gallery, but the exhibition guide, Jan Kováčik, will be happy to offer visitors some tea.
