František Kowolowski (*1968) studied at the Painting Studio of Jan Tarasin and Ryszard Winiarski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He works in the media of painting, performance, installation, video and photography. He employs his experience from behind the scenes of artistic operation in his work. He deals with transience, art recycling, the relation between objects and places and manipulation of their meaning in given contexts. He is established primarily on Ostrava’s art scene with its specific form of artistic subversion and irony. He explores the possibility of the corporeal participation of the artist. As an active curator, he has worked for the Moravian Gallery in Brno, Young Artists‘ Gallery, Good Shepherd Gallery and Gallery G99. He is head of the Painting Studio II at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Ostrava as well as the Faculty‘s dean. He has curated projects for MNAC in Bucharest and Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok.
