On April 24 and 25, 2019, a small-scale international symposium entitled Islands: Possibilities of Togetherness organized by Jindřich Chalupecký Society and Kunstvereniging Diepenheim took place in Diepenheim, Netherlands.
The symposium accompanied the exhibition (Dis)connection, a collaborative project of Kunstvereniging Diepenheim and Jindřich Chalupecký Society, which brought together various artistic positions that are connected by a shared concern: how can we live together in today’s uncertain times?
The symposium took the form of joint discussions, presentations, rituals and workshops, which addressed the above-mentioned concern from both discursive and practical perspectives. The participants collectively shared their experiences and thoughts on where we
can begin to seek togetherness, as humans, artists, curators and (art) institutions, asking what kind of togetherness we are looking for and what issues such quest entails.
