Vasil Artamonov, Alexey Klyuykov

Vasil Artamonov (*1980) and Alexey Klyuykov (*1983) have created collaborative projects as a duo since 2006. They studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Originally from Russia, they have lived in the Czech Republic since their youth. They primarily create actions in public space, video performances and installations but also traditional paintings, often reflecting art history. They are particularly inspired by Russian Constructivism, socialist realism, Cubism, Futurism and the post-war art scene in the USSR. They allude to these movements to reinterpret the period ideas and creative approaches and to critically reflect on the current late capitalist situation. They use irony to summarize history and address social, cultural and political questions related to the development of the democratic system. The two artists exhibit their work primarily at independent and alternative gallery spaces.
