Richard Nikl

Richard Nikl (*1987) graduated from the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem (Studio of Jiří Kovanda) and received a diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Studio of Heim Zobernig) in 2015. His use of materials raises the question of the boundary between art and non-art and inspires an association game revealing references to production processes, institutional procedures and personal records. While his work is linked to post-internet art, Nikl ranks among those artists who are fascinated by the Internet and its networks and who use them rather than taking a critical stance towards them. He is intrigued by the endless stream of images and the incessant variation of digital material, radically transforming our notion of origin and reference. Nikl presented his work internationally at collective and solo exhibitions and was nominated for the Kardinal König Kunstpreis in 2015.
