Michal Pěchouček

Michal Pěchouček (*1973) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Printmaking Studio/Jiří Lindovský School and the Visual Communication Studio/Jiří David School). He started with traditional graphic techniques and painting which he periodically revisits in his work. He divides his graphic prints into several plans, giving the image a multilayered and lively character. He also employs fabrics and embroidery. In the medium of photography, Pěchouček primarily develops the photo novel genre while also creating video art and films. The main aspect of his work lies in storytelling. His suggestive narrative style, peculiar stories and fragmented plots, pausing in static images rather than flowing seamlessly, induce a specific atmosphere which has become Pěchouček’s trademark. Since 2007, he curates for and collaborates with Prague’s Galerie 35m2. Recently, he moved on from visual arts to theater and stage design, contributing to performances at Prague’s MeetFactory and Studio Hrdinů and Brno’s HaDivadlo. He presented his work at solo exhibitions in Frankfurt and Birmingham. Since 2020, he heads the Studio of Intermedia Art at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague together with Dominik Gajarský
