Jiří Příhoda (*1966) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague at the studios of Stanislav Kolíbal and Aleš Veselý. He creates monumental and impressive spatial installations and architectural interventions addressing the given environment while becoming existential and social metaphors. They are often locally specific land art projects that shift our perception of the space, responding to it and making use of its qualities. Some of his works can be seen as original architectural designs that can be perceived differently thanks to the gallery environment and the context of visual arts. In his video art, he post-produces well-known works of film history, putting them into different contexts both formally and semantically. He is also an active graphic designer. Jiří Příhoda held solo exhibitions at the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna and at Prague City Gallery among others. Since 2005, he heads the Studio of Intermedia Work II at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
