Jindřich Chalupecký Award 2010

An international jury nominated six artists for the 21st edition of the leading Czech award for visual artists under 35. The collective exhibition was held at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague. With a portfolio of 80 artists and art groups, this edition had the largest number of nominees and applicants in the Award’s history.

Finalists

The finalists of the 21st edition of Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2010 included Vasil Artamonov and Alexey KlyuykovDavid Böhm and Jiří Franta, Václav Magid, Jakub Matuška and Alice Nikitinová.

Award Holder

Jindřich Chalupecký Award 2010 went to Vasil Artamonov and Alexey Klyuykov. “They were selected for the consistent quality of their work in a variety of media including performance, installation, painting, sculpture and social projects. The artists demonstrate a deep knowledge of art history and respond to impulses from the past, especially Futurism and Suprematism. Using art history as a framework for their research, they respond to political topics related to the development of democratic systems and capitalist economies in the former Soviet Bloc.” The award holders received CZK 100.000 for an exhibition, publication or a creative project of their choice and an international residency.

Jury

The head of the jury was German art historian and curator Susanne Altmann. The jury further included American curator and critic Elizabeth Grady, who has worked for New York’s MoMA among others, curator and co-founder of Display Gallery Ondřej Chrobák, curator of Billboart Gallery Europe Mira Keratová, former rector of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague Pavel Liška, painter Jan Merta, and curator and director of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw Joanna Mytkowska. The jury was the same as in the past two editions.

Exhibition

The collective exhibition Jindřich Chalupecký Award – Final 2010 was held at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague. A parallel exhibition called Award Holders 20 Years featured the work of all previous Jindřich Chalupecký Award holders. The show was curated by Lenka Lindaurová.

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony of the 21st edition of Jindřich Chalupecký Award was held at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague and was directed by past award holder Michal Pěchouček.
