Jindřich Chalupecký Award 2007

An international jury nominated five artists for the 18th edition of the leading Czech award for visual artists under 35. Their works were exhibited solo in five galleries in Prague. The award ceremony was held at the Roxy Club in Prague.

The finalists of the 18th edition of Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2007 included Eva Koťátková, Zbyněk Baladrán, Jakub Hošek, Jan Nálevka and Pavla Sceranková. Zbyněk Baladrán and Jakub Hošek had already been nominated in 2005.

Award Holder

Jindřich Chalupecký Award 2006 went to Eva Koťátková. “I address everyday stories and situations which I rethink, recreate and position within new coordinates according to my personal experience. I test simple activities by complicating their performance and prolonging their duration until they become unbearable. In this way, I test my physical abilities, the variability and limits of my experience of particular situations as well as spatial, semantic and personal relations,” Eva Koťátková wrote in her text for the award’s catalogue. The award holder received CZK 100.000 for an exhibition, publication or a creative project of her choice and an international residency.

The head of the jury was art theorist, curator and director of the Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art of the National Gallery Prague Milena Kalinovská. The jury further included photographer and multimedia artist Milena Dopitová, German art historian and former director of Tate Liverpool Christoph Grunenberg, curator and performer František Kowolowski, painter Jan Merta, art historian and journalist Jana Oravcová, Italian professor and curator Roberto Pinto, and De Veemvloer director Radek Váňa. The jury was the same as in the past edition.

The exhibition Jindřich Chalupecký Award – Final 2007 was held at several galleries linked to the individual artists. Eva Koťátková presented her work at Jelení Gallery, Zbyněk Baladrán at NoD Gallery, Jakub Hošek at A.M. 180 Gallery (founded and programmed by Jakub Hošek in collaboration with Anežka Hošková and Štěpán Bolf), Jan Nálevka at galerie etc. and Pavla Sceranková at Entrance Gallery.
