Multimedia artist Jana Kalinová (*1978) graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology in Intermedia (Peter Ronai Studio) and Video (Marian Palla Studio) and went on study stays at Kent Institute of Art and Design and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Through a wide range of techniques and approaches, she captures various paradoxes and absurdities in daily life and everyday situations. In her installations and objects, she will often change a single aspect of the object, suddenly turning it into something new and giving the viewers long-lasting food for thought. She is intrigued by opposites in materials and other contexts, unusual situations and interaction between the artwork and the observer. Besides cooperating with the viewers in her works, she also collaborates with artists on the Czech art scene. Jana Kalinová is also an active curator. In 2002, she founded and managed Brno’s Eskort Gallery; in 2008, she opened the Parallel exhibition space in Prague together with Matěj Smetana. She also curated projects at Vysočina Regional Gallery in Jihlava and the House of the Lords of Kunštát in Brno.
