The exhibition of Anna Hulačová held at the Liberec Regional Gallery presented a part of her works created for the Final exhibition of Jindřich Chalupecký Award 2016. These included a series of sculptures developing the characteristic features of Hulačová’s work, such as the combination of 2D and 3D representation and use of non-sculpting materials such as dough and honeycombs. The main themes addressed by this convolute included collaboration, hierarchy and the heritage of specific forms of modernism. The installation created for Liberec Regional Gallery included the artist’s works on paper.
Anna Hulačová (1984) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Sculpture Studio / Jaroslav Róna School and Studio of Intermedia Work II / Jiří Příhoda School). She has been to a study stay at the Korea National University of Arts in Seoul, South Korea and Gray School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland. She revives traditional crafts in her sculpting work, translating the inspiration found in ancient mythologies, eastern cultures as well as in Czech folk traditions and original Christian symbolism into the language of contemporary art. Her primarily figurative works embody an idiosyncratic aesthetics merging ancient idols, Gothic woodcarving and surface minimalism of graphic design and photography. Hulačová has introduced her work at many renowned Czech exhibition institutions such as the National Gallery in Prague, MeetFactory and Hunt Kastner Artworks; she is represented by the latter gallery. International audiences were able to see her work at Gherdëina Biennial in Ortisei, Italy, and at Art Basel in the Liste section. In 2016, she went to a residency at CEAAC in Strasbourg where she opened an exhibition of her work. She won the Czech Center Audience Award for her work at the Final exhibition of Jindřich Chalupecký Award 2016.
