David Böhm a Jiří Franta

David Böhm a Jiří Franta

David Böhm and Jiří Franta form an artistic duo since 2006. David Böhm (*1982) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Studios of Vladimír Skrepl and Vladimír Kokolia) and went on study stays and residencies in Berlin, Vienna and New York. Jiří Franta (*1978) also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Studio of Vladimír Skrepl), is a member of the Rafani art group and co-headed Prague’s Etc. Gallery with Jiří Skála. Böhm and Franta explore the relation between drawing, performance and conceptual art. They are known for drawing and painting on walls in galleries as well as in public space. Developed throughout the exhibition, these works are mostly repainted after the exhibition closes and the original wall color is restored. The drawings often feature texts as well. The artists present their distinctive perception of the world – their views on society, politics, the art scene, mass media as well as their own feelings. In their “illustrations,” they often play with multiple meaning and irony, commenting on the life of the human community. They presented numerous solo exhibitions and interventions at Czech institutions and received multiple awards for their books. They were finalists of Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2009, 2010 and 2012.
