Café Chalupecký: Jonathan Watkins

The meeting with British curator Jonathan Watkins, who was a member of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award jury between 2002 and 2004, was held on the occasion of the retrospective of Ján Mančuška at the Moravian Gallery in Brno. The debate with Watkins, who sat on the JCHA jury in 2004 when Mančuška won the award, further featured Vít Havránek, curator of Mančuška’s retrospective, and David Kořínek, artist and new media theorist.

Jonathan Watkins was born in 1957 in the United Kingdom and grew up in Australia where he studied philosophy and art history. He has curated projects for the Venice Biennale and London’s Tate Gallery among others. For 17 years, he has been director of Ikon Gallery in Birmingham.
