Alice Nikitinová (*1979) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Painting Studio I/Jiří Sopek School) and went on a study stay at Facultad de Bellas Artes in Cuenca, Spain. She is a distinctive member of the middle generation of painters yet stands apart from most program performances and big painting shows. Her work is rooted in the tradition of abstract painting of avant-garde artists of the first third of the 20th century. Her formal examination of the autonomous questions of abstract painting is based on her personal fascination by the mundane objects of everyday use. By their essential, semiotic aesthetics, reduced to their functional substance, they call for a new formulation of visual topics, reduction and deformation of the modernist structure of paintings, rediscovery of humor and restoration of the perceptional sensibility towards painting. Alice Nikitinová presented her work at solo exhibitions at Juliette Jongma Gallery in Amsterdam and Autocenter Gallery in Berlin.
