Adéla Babanová (*1980) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (Studios of Miloš Šejn and Michael Bielický). She went on a study stay at École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Her work is rooted primarily in the film medium which she uses to explore aspects related to truthfulness, personal and collective memory, history and subjectivity of narration. She often employs the docu-fiction genre and a specific aesthetic characteristic for a particular period. Her films are based on real events, images and motifs whose archival documentation is used to create a new story and its further interpretation. In her multimedia projects, free of pathos yet full of humor, she manages to capture how people appear to themselves and to others and how thin the line between fiction and reality is. Besides Jindřich Chalupecký Award, she was also shortlisted for the 333 Award (2012) and the Dorothea von Stetten Kunstpreis (2014). She is represented by Zahorian & Van Espen Gallery.
